First Dance Company - for Ballroom Dance Lessons in London
What would you like to know?
How do we book the First Dance lessons?
Please call us on 0787 668 7659 when we can discuss with you what are your preferred times for wedding First Dance lessons.
How many dance lessons will we need for our First Dance?
To dance to a complete track we recommend that you have five lessons in order to make your dance feel special for you. You are, however, welcome to take as many lessons as you wish.
Where and when are the Wedding First Dance lessons held?
We work in professional dance studios, the Big City Studios, 159, Balls Pond Road,
Islington, N1 4BG. The studios are not open to the public. You will not be surrounded by people exercising in a fitness centre. The studios have sprung floors, unlike many community halls used by other studios, full length mirror walls, a comfortable lounge and air conditioning. For pictures of the studios click on www.pineappleagency.com and follow the link to Big City Studios. It is the studio the BBC use for their Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals and by other West End choreographers for rehearsing the West End musicals.
We work there in the evenings. Lesson times are 6.30pm, 7.20pm, 8.10pm and 9pm.
We are also happy to teach you in your home, depending on your location and whether you have enough space. We would not like you to feel its like learning to swim in the bath!
How long before the wedding should we start the First Dance lessons?
Most people come once a week, so if you are taking 5 lessons we advise you to start about 7-8 weeks before your wedding. You will be very busy in the last week and you may have other commitments on one of the weeks which might prevent you coming. 7 -8 weeks allows some flexibility.
We do not have much time before the wedding. Can you still teach us our First Dance?
You are very welcome to call us. We shall be happy to help you if we have any lesson times available. You may have time for one or two lessons so at least you will have the chance to learn some basic movements.
What do we have to wear for our First Dance lessons?
Please wear any clothes that you like that do not restrict movement. Also wear some comfortable shoes, preferably not trainers as they can stick when you try to move across the floor. Ladies may like to think about wearing shoes with a similar heel to the wedding shoes. On the last lesson you may like to wear the shoes you will wear for the First Dance at your wedding.
We have never danced before and are concerned about taking lessons. Will you be able to teach us?
Do not worry about not having had lessons before. We specialise in teaching absolute beginners. We will arrange your First Dance so that you feel confident and comfortable with what you do and enable you to make the dance memorable and impress your guests. Many of the quotes from our students on this website are from those who had never danced before.
You will be surprised how quickly you learn. Walk in….dance out!
What type of routine will we learn?
We will discuss with you what you would like to achieve. We can make the routine for your First Wedding Dance fit your song and be as simple as you would wish or as complicated as you can achieve in the time. We will also ask about the bride’s dress and create the routine with that in mind.
What song should we choose?
You can choose any song that you wish for your First wedding dance; maybe something that represents a special occasion for you; maybe something that you particularly like. If you are unsure of what song to choose we can advise you of possible songs either on your first lesson or by a free telephone consultation before you come for your lesson.
Can I buy a gift of some dance lessons?
Certainly. We have some very presentable vouchers which you can buy for any number of lessons. There is a space on them for you to sign to make it personal. Just call us on 0787 668 7659 and we can arrange to send the voucher to you.
